Culinary Jakobsweg 2016 officially opened

On July 10, the Culinary Jakobsweg in Paznaun began its eighth season under the patronage of Eckart Witzigmann – with two exciting new highlights: for the first time, female culinary power joined the ranks of top chefs with Tanja Grandits, and this summer, guests can hike along five gourmet routes to discover dishes created by Michelin-starred chefs.

Pleasure hiking in perfect weather: On July 10, 2016, under bright sunshine and warm summer skies, the 8th Culinary Jakobsweg was officially opened in Paznaun, Tyrol. Together with numerous guests, five internationally acclaimed star chefs – Bobby Bräuer (Germany), Tanja Grandits (Switzerland), Viki Geunes (Belgium), Josef Steffner (Austria), and Stephen Crane (Great Britain) – hiked along the gourmet trails to their designated mountain huts. The day’s destinations included the Jamtalhütte, Friedrichshafener Hütte, Heidelberger Hütte, Ascher Hütte, and Niederelbe Hütte in Paznaun. There, the chefs presented their recipes using regional ingredients and cooked them for the first time together with the hut hosts.

The creations of the five chefs will be featured on the menus of these alpine huts until the end of September. Representing Austria this year is 3-toque chef Josef Steffner (Mesnerhaus, Mauterndorf). For the first time, the lineup also includes a female chef – the German-born Tanja Grandits, who runs the renowned Stucki in Basel. She shared her enthusiasm for the concept: “Bringing fine dining to mountain huts is a wonderful idea. The biggest challenge for me was creating a recipe that can be prepared on the huts, includes local ingredients, and still remains unmistakably ‘Tanja.’”

All recipes from this year’s creations are available for free download on the Paznaun-Ischgl tourism website: www.paznaun-ischgl.com
